Rennes, the gateway to Brittany, is 347 km (215 miles) west of Paris. It can be reached in about three hours via Le Mans using A11 then A81 (A11 continues southwest from Le Mans to Nantes). Rennes is also linked by good roads to Quimper (N24/N165), Vannes (N24/N166), and several other key locales. A car is pretty much essential if you want to see out-of-the-way places; when planning a coastal road trip, just remember to allocate plenty of time—winding roads make for slow (albeit scenic) driving.
