The Best Hotel Pools and Spas in Vienna

Patti McCracken | February 02, 2018

No place does spas like Austria does spas. Wellness is so much a part of the culture, that Austrians are written annual prescriptions by their doctors to spend three weeks at a “cure” getting massaged, mud packed, steamed, and sauna-ed. There are whole spa towns, like nearby Baden (which is the verb “to bathe"), and Bad Ischl whose entire existence was borne of pampering and healing the body. This sets the bar high for hotels, but we found several that were up to the challenge.

Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom

Why it made the list

The entire fifth floor is a pampering mecca of whirlpools, saunas, hammams and body treatments. When you’ve had all the stress eased from you, relax further still in the lounge, while soaking up the breathtaking, panoramic view of the city.

Park Hyatt

Why it made the list

Perhaps no luxe hotel in the city is more cleverly designed than the Park Hyatt, located in what used to be the headquarters of a national bank. The Arany Spa occupies the former vault, and it is fitting that it may just be one of the city’s best kept secrets. Ritz-Carlton

Why it made the list

The hotel calls itself an “urban spa retreat,” and we believe it. The impressive indoor pool is the longest in the city center. When you emerge from your plunge, you have a choice of deluxe steam baths and saunas; and if that’s not enough, a menu of nearly forty treatments available to pamper and renew. We recommend the 90-minute detox massage. If you’re still feeling indulgent, try the organic, vegan manicure.
